Congress results 2011-2012

DEAR FELLOW BCFL COACHES,

Welcome to another year of BCFL Student Congress competitions.   For those who may not know me, my name is Howard Scott and I am the Assistant Director of Student Congress.   I sincerely hope that all schools who were involved in Student Congress last year will continue to be involved this year and that many new schools will join us.

For those of you who are new to Student Congress, let me explain some things which you need to know.   You will notice from the schedule that there are four weekday sessions and two Saturdays when there are two different congress sessions on the same day.   During the weekday sessions, the sessions will begin at 4:00 to allow school from a distance to arrive on tiem.   During the Saturday sessions, there will be both a morning and an afternoon session.   New this year, students involved in the Saturday congress sessions MAY compete in ONE speech event (not extemp) as well as compete in congress.   We have also adopted a change in procedure which was proposed.   I have attached a copy of this proposal.    This proposal will only be in effect during the first FOUR sessions of Student Congress.   I will choose topics which have not been submitted by the students to fill the third and fourth docket slots.

Now we get down to particulars.   The first session is September 28.   Please send all resolutions to me at hscott@thecatholichighschool.org by September 15.   I shall prepare the bills/resolutions and send them to you via e-mail and post them on the BCFL web site ( www.bcfl.net) by September 17.    You will receive an e-mail version of the bills/resolutions if your school has submitted legislation.   I have two requests.   One -PLEASE have your legislation to me on time.    Two – Please use the attached templates to submit your legislation.   Do not send them as PDF files.   If you do, I simply have to retype them.   This takes a lot of time.   If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the e-mail address listed above and I will do my best to answer any of your questions.   I look forward to seeing you on September 28 and a great first session of STUDENT CONGRESS.

                                                                                                Sincerely,

                                                                                                Howard Scott

                                                                        Assistant Director of Student Congress
